How long have you been in this business?
Our family bought it from the Nortons approximately 30 years ago. David took over the management 8 years ago and we moved into these new larger premises a couple of years back.

You joined HBT in November 2002 – why?
We were an independent who had never been part of any group. We didn't believe in them. But for months beforehand it seemed that every second rep who called into the shop was going on about HBT. They all reckoned we'd be better off if we did.

So what happened?
We joined. The reps were right. Our first rebate cheque was about three times what we paid to join. The buying was better. And David was relatively new to the industry, so the relationships we developed with other HBT stores in our area was great. We all help each other out.

What would you say to anyone thinking about HBT?
We'd highly recommend joining. It will benefit your business and you'll make a lot of new friends.
