How long have you been involved with your business?
There’s been a timber yard here for about 50 years and I bought  the business about four years ago. Neil started as a manager with  us not long after that.

Your major challenge ?
Many, but we’re here on very busy Oxford Street with limited access.  It was a huge job to renovate, expand and improve the off street  access. Especially given the size of the site and the fact that we were  running the business at the same time.

Why did you join HBT in August 2004 ?
We wanted the better discounts and the increased buying power but  without being locked into someone else’s promotional program.

And did you get what you were looking for ?
We definitely got more. The help in sourcing products was really important. We were surprised at the friendliness and the way that  members will help each other with stock or information and advice.  Compared to some other groups we love the way that they let us  run our own show.

What would you say to other retailers ?
We’d recommend HBT to anyone.
