How did you get started in your business?
We bought it 22 years ago when it was really a yard for second hand building materials. Over the years we evolved into new products and then into hardware in response to our customers needs. Now the girls are involved as well.

What type of market do you serve?
We operate in an older residential area – so our customers, whether trade or DIY, are mainly interested in renovations.

Why did you join HBT when they started up in Victoria?
We could see the potential of what it would do for our business.

And what was that?
Better buying. The rebates have been fantastic and we love the group discussions and networking.

Any advice to other independent stores?
There is absolutely no reason not to join. There is no downside and everything is to the benefit of the members. Why wouldn’t you join?
