What is your background in the Industry?
21 years in landscape supply and hardware retailing.

You joined HBT about two years ago - why?
We were part of one of the banner hardware groups and our profitability wasn’t what we wanted it to be. In a sense while in that group we were trying to hammer a round peg (our business) into a square hole (that group). We joined HBT so that we had total control over all facets of our own business.

What has membership of HBT done for your business?
Significantly increased profitability and enabled us to do things the way we want to do them. We are no longer trying to make our business fit someone else’s business model. Now we do what we want to.

What else?
I’ve nearly got rid of all the left over BBQ’s!

What would you say to other independent store owners?
Take a step outside your business, have a global look and listen to what these guys (HBT) have to offer to you. Assess the benefits. They’re not growing membership that fast without a reason.
